If you’ve even been given a heirloom or piece of jewellery as a gift, you know that they sometimes make their way into the back of a drawer or a box, never to be seen or worn again. While it may be a nice gesture, some pieces just aren’t everyone’s style, and rather than wear something you don’t like, you’ve hidden them out of sight and out of mind. This happens even with jewellery and watches we’ve bought for ourselves—we may like a certain style, colour or type of jewellery at the time of purchase, but it soon becomes something we just can’t bring ourselves to wear.
While it may seem like a loss, especially if they carried an initially steep price tag, it doesn’t have to be that way. Just because you don’t wear the jewellery any more doesn’t mean it doesn’t hold any value. In fact, not only are your old gold jewellery, watches and diamonds in high demand, but you stand to get a little extra cash in return—something you definitely wouldn’t get if they stayed buried in a drawer collecting dust.
Now is a great time to be selling gold, too, and it couldn’t be easier. If you’re waiting around for your jewellery to appreciate, you’ll likely be waiting for quite a while. Much like a car, you’ll never quite get back what you paid. Instead of holding on to jewellery that no longer holds any personal or sentimental value, rest assured that it’s worth more than you may think.
EzyCash Gold Buyers is committed to turning your seemingly useless gold and jewellery into the value you want and deserve. Not only will you make a little extra space, but you’ll receive the best prices around, cash in hand—it’s the best of both worlds.
Don’t wait. Contact the experts at EzyCash Gold Buyers to the discover the hidden value of your old and unwanted jewellery, watches and diamonds today!
I have a lovely silver bangle that was given to me by my dad’s parents for my 21st. (That was a long time ago!) I remember opening the box – I was flatting in Mt Vic in Wellington at the time – and my flatmates were all watching. They were as excited as I was! I was so surprised to see such a beautiful piece. It’s very simple and elegant, and they had also had it engraved. It’s one of the few things I own that were given to me by nana and granddad.
My other grandmother gave me a beautiful gold and diamond ring. It was passed down from her grandmother to her, to me – because I am the eldest grand-daughter. It’s come a long way… originally, my grandmother lived on a farm in Holland, until she got married and emigrated to NZ after the war. I will keep the tradition going and pass the ring down to my own grand-daughter if I have one!
My grandparents are all gone now… but wearing the heirloom jewellery they gave me is a very special feeling of family and connection. It’s lovely to know my grandmother used to wear the same ring. I only wear these pieces on special occasions, as I would hate to lose them. They are my favourite things.”

In 1835, Alfred, Lord Tennyson wrote his “Locksley Hall” poem and the much quoted line “In the Spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.” Spring is still the traditional time when most people become engaged.
Along with the romance and excitement of “popping the question” comes the responsibility of choosing the right engagement ring. Here are some tips!
Once you’ve decided on your budget, think about your partner’s style – is it traditional, classic, contemporary or avant garde?
Think about the band. White gold and platinum are very popular engagement ring metals. White gold is usually plated with rhodium for a bright silvery appearance, and platinum is hard, strong and naturally silvery colour that dulls over time. Or does your partner like natural yellow-orange gold, or a lighter yellow colour?
Choose your partner’s correct ring band size by (secretly!) borrowing, drawing or measuring another of your partner’s rings. Rings can be resized, but it’s easier and cheaper to resize a ring that’s too large, rather than too small.
Most engagement ring gemstones are diamonds – and it’s a brave partner who chooses anything else! Diamonds are very durable and work well with other jewellery.
At EzyCash, you can choose from a range of very desirable diamond solitaire engagement rings in 18ct white gold from 0.50ct (half carat) to 1.00ct. These new, stunning rings are absolutely beautiful. They are also excellent value and very affordable.
The team at EzyCash Gold Buyers are diamond engagement ring and wedding jewellery experts, as well as high-end vintage and second-hand jewellery appraisers. They sell new and vintage diamond engagement rings, gemstones, white gold, platinum and goldrings and jewellery, and they also buy new and vintage diamond engagement rings, gemstones white gold, platinum and gold rings and jewellery, broken jewellery and quality watches (including broken watches) for cash, giving the best price, in cash, instantly.
“The 4 c’s” are the criteria jewellers use to grade diamonds. They are:
A good cut gives a diamond its brilliance.
When a diamond is well-cut, light enters the stone and reflects from one side to the other before reflecting back out of the diamond to the observer’s eye. This light, and its flashing, fiery effect is what makes diamonds so mesmerizing.
In a poorly cut diamond, the light ‘leaks’ out from the sides or bottom of the diamond rather than reflecting back to the eye. Less reflected light means less brilliance.
Natural diamonds are created under an incredible amount of pressure and most diamonds have flaws.
A diamond’s “clarity” is all about the flaws. There are two types:
“Inclusions” are flaws such as air bubbles, cracks, and non-diamond minerals found within the diamond.
“Blemishes” are scratches, pits, and chips (some blemishes occur during the cutting process, most often at the girdle).
Because they are less common, diamonds with no or few inclusions and blemishes are more highly valued and priced.
When jewellers speak of a diamond’s colour, they are usually referring to the presence or absence of colour in white diamonds. Colour is a result of the composition of the diamond, and it never changes over time.
Colourless diamonds allow more light to pass through so have more sparkle. Very few diamonds are truly colourless and they are more valuable.
Coloured diamonds do not follow this rule. These diamonds are very rare and expensive. They can be any colour, from blue to green to bright yellow. They are actually more valuable for their colour.
Fluorescence is a glowing effect seen in some gem-quality diamonds when they are exposed to long-wave ultraviolet light (such as nightclub black lights). Most gemmologists prefer diamonds without this effect, but it’s a matter of personal taste.
A carat is a unit of measurement used to weigh a diamond. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams, or 0.2 grams.
The word “carat” is taken from the carob seeds that people once used to balance scales. The seeds are so uniform in shape and weight that even today’s sophisticated instruments cannot detect more than three one-thousandths of a difference between them.
Large diamonds have a greater cost per carat and the price of a diamond rises exponentially to its size (e.g., a 2-carat diamond will cost more per carat than a 1-carat diamond of equal grade).

This year, gold jewellery is combined with serene colours ranging from neutrals and soft pastels, especially blues and pinks, as well as orange and red brights.
Spring 2014 gold jewellery is inspired by nature. You’ll see delicate gold blossoms, gold birds and even gold butterflies. Real diamonds are placed in the centre and petals of flowers, and on the wings of the birds and butterflies, to highlight their delicate beauty.
These motifs feature in ranges by Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co and in local gold jewellery ranges by designers Karen Walker and Boh Runga.

If you’ve ever bought a piece of gold jewellery, you’ve likely heard the piece described in terms of ‘carats’. The term carat is used as a unit of purity for gold, however carats can also be used to describe mass, or weight of stones such as diamonds or other gemstones. Understanding these terms and measurements can help you determine the value of your gold jewellery.
Due to the soft and pliable nature of gold, it is often mixed, or ‘alloyed’, with other metals such as copper or silver to make jewellery to add strength or hardness. The amount of metal added to the gold is measured to determine the final carat rating of the gold jewellery. Therefore, the carats are used to describe the level of pure gold in a piece of jewellery.
Each carat represents 1/24th of the whole, so 24-carat gold is pure gold, or 18-carat gold is made up of 18 parts gold and 6 parts of another type of metal, or alloys, such as copper (that is, 75% gold and 25% other metals) etc. The higher the number of carats, then the higher the gold content is in the piece of gold jewellery. This is used for both gold in the form of jewellery and also gold in bullion bars or coins.
It is standard practice for gold jewellery to be stamped with a marking that indicates this metal content. It will usually be placed somewhere inconspicuous on the piece where it will not be affected by size changes or near stones or designs.
Professional gold valuers will use certain measures to ascertain the purity of your gold pieces and determine its true value. At EzyCash Gold Buyers we provide fair and accurate valuations for gold jewellery, watches, diamonds and gold pieces and will offer a fair cash price in exchange for your jewellery.
Do you like a bit of bling with your jewellery? How about $30million worth?! That’s how much a flawless 118-carat diamond recently sold for at auction with Sotheby’s. The egg-sized diamond was discovered in 2011 in a mine in South Africa and was originally a whopping 299 carats before it was cut.
This price, supposedly at the low-end of its estimated price, beats a previous auction-price record for a white diamond of $26 million just six months earlier. However this record-breaking gem may not hold its top spot for long, with Sotheby’s putting a 60-carat pink diamond on the block in November this year, which is expected to fetch more than $60 million at auction.
While this giant stone may have been an exceptional record-breaker, smaller collectible diamonds are also currently achieving big prices as markets see large jewels as portable stores of wealth.
So if you’ve got diamonds sitting around at home, they really might just be your new best friend as they may be worth much more than you realise. However diamond prices and vary widely, depending on size, colour and quality, so it’s best to only have your diamonds valued by a reputable dealer.
